Description
This shot was taken at the wonderful Brecon Beacon in the south Wales valleys. The water was fast flowing and very deep in places. I had to keep a close eye on my footings as I was in the water standing on uneven slippery rocks.
I was aiming for a close up shot with the rock in the far back of this image but the uneven footing combined with the splashing water, depth and strength of the water proved to much even for a stubborn country bumpkin like myself.
Simply the rains had come hard during the previous week and turned an otherwise manageable flow into a raging torrent!
The fast flow works very well to add drama in a photographic image (especially going against the grain as it where) but is incredibly hard for stability.
The rock featured here in the foreground was sensational! I had to do many edits of this image to bring out the rock beauty to what I had seen that day. I don't know if it's the colour, textures, shape or snake like shine of the rock that captivated me so? No doubt a combination of all.
I shot this landscape wide angle, something I don't do a lot of but I felt the rock needed centere stage rather then getting lost in a stretched out panoramic.
To capture the fast paced water I opted for a slow shutter speed but not to slow to milk out the raging movement.
This is a very peaceful, relaxing image broken up with beautiful red, orange and soft yellow colours of Autumn all accented on the incredible gem like rock striking you in the foreground. Nature at it's best and a privilege to capture.

This is so cool! I love the composition with the big rock right up in the foreground
